For June Insitute 193 presented the return of Jason Lescalleet to Lexington. Lescalleet has been a regular to Lexington for the past few years, playing several WRFL sponsored shows including an appearance with Graham Lambkin at the final Boomslang festival. The open of the show was done by Lexington electronic improv collective S.M.E.L.L.
Jason Lescalleet is an experimental electronic musician known for his use of reel-to-reel tape machines and other electronics to bring out hidden sonic qualities of the spaces in which he performs, almost playing the room as an instrument itself. He has released three collaborative albums with Graham Lambkin on the Erstwhile label, transforming often banal source material into powerful collages of sound. He has released music on RRR, Erstwhile, KYE, and his own Glistening Examples label.
S.M.E.L.L. is a long running and seldom performing live improvised electronic music collective featuring an assortment of performers from Lexington.
