Morgan O'Kane

Brooklyn musician and activist, Morgan O'Kane, has played at Institute 193 three times since 2009. Originally from Charlottesville, Virginia, O'Kane's exuberant sound builds on the rich tradition of Appalachian banjo music, and infuses it with a unique, kickdrum-powered energy. He often tours with fiddler Ferd Moyse, cellist Leyla McCalla, and dobro player Zeke Healy.

O'Kane refined his skills as a busking street performer in New York City. He created the soundtrack for the documentary Low Coal, and has released two full-length albums, Nine Lives and Pendulum
